The University of Jos community was thrown into shock following the arrest of a 200-level student, Nanpon Timnan, who allegedly murdered his friend and buried him in a shallow grave inside their off-campus apartment in Rusau Village, Jos North LGA, Plateau State. The victim, identified as Peter Mafuyai, a 300-level student in the Department of Banking and Finance, was reportedly close friends with the suspect. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police reports, the two had gone out together to play football and visit a music studio before returning home, where the suspect allegedly attacked Peter with a machete. Rather than report the incident, Timnan reportedly dug a shallow grave inside their shared compound and buried Peter’s body in an attempt to conceal the crime. Suspicion grew when Peter was declared missing, and the suspect’s behavior led neighbors and friends to alert the authorities.
