. Power, Pain & a Missing License Plate: Inside Phyna’s Battle for Justice

Her sister had just graduated—six days earlier, full of hope and dreams—when tragedy struck. A heavy-duty truck, allegedly registered to the Dangote Group, plowed into Otabor Bodon Ruth, leaving her critically injured in Auchi, Edo State. The crash resulted in the immediate amputation of one leg from the pelvic region. Her other leg, along with severe injuries to her head and hand, now hangs in the balance. What followed was heartbreak steeped in outrage. Phyna—BBNaija season 7’s winner—took to Instagram to accuse the Dangote Group and the Nigerian police of complicity. She condemned the removal of the license plate from the truck, claiming officials prioritized the vehicle over her sister’s well-being. “Na money you get, you no be God... Enought is enough,” she wrote, her words echoing the helplessness of a family watching the system fail them while tragedy unfolded. Actress Kate Henshaw joined the chorus for justice, revealing that the driver, initially fleeing the scene, was apprehended after a lecturer’s pursuit. Shockingly, both the family and concerned students were allegedly denied access to the truck, despite it being held in police custody. On the other side, the Dangote Group issued a response: senior officials and the company’s insurance team visited both the crash scene and the hospital to check on Ruth and her family. They assured that she would receive full medical care and compensation under the company’s welfare policy, and expressed concern over her condition. Meanwhile, social media activist VeryDarkMan intensified pressure on the system, sharing hospital footage that painted a stark picture of Ruth’s condition. He also alleged the truck driver lacked a valid license—raising fresh questions about corporate responsibility and accountability.
